Many of us creatives, when we are given a wonderful epiphany, look immediately for the reins. We look past the possibility of success and happiness and see only the roadblock, the shouldn’t, the reasons it–whatever “it” is, won’t work. So we repeatedly stand on the beach watching the others take off and soar.
The answer of course, is to gently remind ourselves, or take a 2×4 hit to the back of the head to remember. Remember the simple truth we already know: it’s more fun to fly than to stand on the sand. It may not be as safe, but self-constricting safety is a small death every time we choose it.
So arch the spirit, unfurl the wings and fly.
